Shivani Charak of Mountaineering Association of J&K (MAJK),
the top ranked woman sport climber of India, left today for China to
participate in a two-day international competition in Lead climbing and
Bouldering to be held at Ningbo, an industrial hub of East China, from May 11.
Shivani along with Adarsh Singh of Delhi has been selected by Indian
Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) to represent India in a series of
competitions at five different cities of China during the current year. For all
these competitions Shivani has been fully sponsored by the Government of
China.
Whereas the first competition shall be held at Ningbo, the second competition
in Lead and Speed climbing shall be organized from tomorrow at Lhasa, the
capital of the Tibet autonomous region, at an altitude of 12000ft and the 3rd
competition from July14 at Delingha, situated at an altitude of 10000ft in
Northern China.
The fourth and fifth competitions in Lead and Speed Climbing shall be held at
Lanzhou in North West China and Wanxiam mountain, a popular film shooting
base and summer resort of China.
Total prize money for all these competitions is 100000 Euros (Rs.78 lakhs
approx.) which shall be distributed equally between men and women
categories.
Meanwhile, members of MAJK led by Ram Khajuria (general secretary),
Khurshid Ahmad and Yogeshwar Kumar (vice presidents); Shawetica Khajuria,
(joint secretary), Sushil Singh (treasurer), Sonam Sidharth and Rahul Sharma,
(Chairman of Sprawling Buds ICSE School) wished Shivani all the best.
